Raymond A. Hrkac
President and founder of GGL, Ray Hrkac has been "in the field" his entire working life. A native of Port Arthur (now Thunder Bay), Ont., Ray began to learn the geologist's trade as a prospector's assistant during his high school summers, working for both Anaconda and the Canadian Nickel Company (now Inco), on location in northwestern Ontario and in Quebec, and later, during his university years, for Newmont in the Granduc area of B.C.
After studying economics and geology at the University of British Columbia, he spent his early career years with Granby Mines and later, Bralorne Mines in B.C. He joined Pine Lake in 1967, working with this junior exploration company until 1972, when he began working as an independent consultant through his own geological services company. In 1981, he founded GGL, taking the company public in 1983. A highly respected member of the community, he is well known for his active field orientation and hands-on approach to management.
